20th Century Studios Developing Biopic on Imagine Dragons: “Thunder & Flames”
A major motion picture about Imagine Dragons is officially in the works — and it’s set to be electric.
In a move that’s already stirring excitement in the music and film worlds alike, 20th Century Studios has confirmed development of a biographical drama chronicling the rise of multi-platinum rock band Imagine Dragons. Titled “Thunder & Flames,” the film aims to trace the group’s humble beginnings in Las Vegas all the way to their explosive global stardom.
The project is being produced in collaboration with the band’s management and will feature never-before-seen insights into the band’s personal struggles, creative process, and the emotional highs and lows that shaped their identity.
“This isn’t just about the hits,” said one insider close to the project. “It’s about four guys trying to stay human while the world turns them into icons.”
The script, penned by Emmy-nominated writer Sarah Polonsky, is said to center primarily on frontman Dan Reynolds, chronicling his battles with depression, chronic illness, and the overwhelming weight of fame — while also spotlighting key moments with bandmates Wayne Sermon, Ben McKee, and Daniel Platzman.
Scenes will reportedly include the early gigs at local casinos and dive bars, the record-label tension during the making of Night Visions, and the unexpected worldwide success of “Radioactive”, which catapulted the band from underground buzz to mainstream obsession.
“There’s a story here about pain, persistence, and purpose,” a 20th Century Studios executive noted. “Imagine Dragons didn’t just make songs — they made anthems for a generation that needed to scream.”
Casting the Thunder
While casting hasn’t been officially announced, early rumors suggest that a mix of up-and-coming actors and a possible A-lister for Reynolds are being considered. Music supervision will be handled by industry legend Alexandra Patsavas, with the band themselves involved in overseeing the soundtrack and scoring — including possible reimagined versions of their biggest hits.
When Can We Expect It?
Thunder & Flames is currently in early development, with production tentatively scheduled to begin in late 2025. If all goes according to plan, the film could hit theaters by summer 2026, perfectly timed for the band’s 15th anniversary.
No word yet on who will direct, but the studio is reportedly in talks with filmmakers who have previously tackled music-driven dramas — suggesting a tone somewhere between Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star Is Born.
