Doncic Records Triple-Double as Slovenia Beats New Zealand to Advance in FIBA Olympic Qualifiers
After a tough Game 1 loss to Croatia, Slovenia needed a decisive win over New Zealand by at least ten points to stay in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in Piraeus, Greece. Led by Luka Doncic, Slovenia delivered, defeating New Zealand 104-78 and advancing to the semifinals as the second team from Group A.
Doncic was stellar, posting a triple-double with 36 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists in 35 minutes. He was supported by EuroLeague center Josh Nebo, who added a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Despite falling short of taking the top spot in Group A, which was secured by Croatia, Slovenia moves forward in the tournament. They are likely to face Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Greece in the semifinals, depending on the outcome of Greece’s match against Egypt. The semifinals are scheduled for this Saturday.
