Lakers Rookie Bronny James Shines in Video Game Tournament Amid Summer League Struggles
Los Angeles Lakers rookie point guard Bronny James made headlines at the Summer League, not on the court, but in a video game tournament. According to Arash Markazi of The Sporting Tribune, James won the Call of Duty Modern Warfare III tournament, defeating Charlotte Hornets forward Grant Williams in a special map at the Encore Las Vegas during the NBA Summer League.
Despite his gaming victory, James has struggled in the Summer League, shooting just 6-for-26 from the field and 0-for-12 from three-point range, scoring only 15 points over three games. The Lakers remain winless, and James admitted he’s in a “little slump.” His shooting woes mirror his performance during his freshman season at USC, where he shot 26.6 percent from the field and 26.1 percent from three.
The Lakers knew James would be a work in progress, and while his journey to reaching his full potential in the NBA may be long and challenging, the hope remains that he will improve over time.
