Remco Evenepoel Debunks Rumors of Impending Move to Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe: ‘There’s No Truth to It’
Remco Evenepoel Denies Transfer Rumors: ‘So Much Comes Out Without Any Truth’ Amid Speculation of Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe Move
Rumors surrounding Remco Evenepoel’s potential transfer from Soudal – Quick-Step have circulated for some time, with past speculation linking the Belgian cyclist to INEOS Grenadiers and Team Visma | Lease a Bike. Recently, Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe has emerged as the latest team allegedly pursuing Evenepoel.
However, after his recent participation in the 2024 Tour of Britain, where he made his first appearance following his double Olympic gold win, Evenepoel addressed the rumors. Speaking with Sporza from the Soudal – Quick-Step team bus, he firmly dismissed the latest speculation regarding his future. “I don’t know anything about it myself,” Evenepoel commented, downplaying the situation. “So much always comes out without any truth behind it. I have no idea what this is about, and I haven’t seen anything myself. But yes, I will still be riding for the same team next year.”
Reflecting on his performance at the Tour of Britain, Evenepoel expressed optimism despite not leading the race himself. Instead, he played a supportive role, helping teammate Paul Magnier claim three stage wins. “It was all about building up and getting back into form. I couldn’t push more than I did,” he stated, as he now prepares for the upcoming European and World Championships. He ruled out altitude training, opting instead to train at sea level, aiming to peak for the time trial on September 22 before focusing on the road race a week later.
Klaas Lodewyck, team manager of Soudal – Quick-Step, echoed Evenepoel’s sentiments. “It’s been a positive week for Remco,” said Lodewyck. “Our goal was to leave with a better feeling than when we arrived, and we achieved that. Even though he wasn’t in contention for classification, his contributions were vital to the team every day. He got the motivation he needed to continue improving.”
