Jorge Martin Focused on Consistency, Not Pressure, Ahead of MotoGP Title Decider in Barcelona
As the MotoGP season reaches its climax at the Barcelona Solidarity GP, Jorge Martin remains laser-focused on what he can control, rather than being consumed by the pressure of securing his maiden world championship. Martin heads into the season finale with a 24-point lead over reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia, needing just 14 points across the weekend—or a win in Saturday’s Sprint race—to claim the title.
A Shift in Mentality Brings Success
Reflecting on his approach this year, Martin revealed that staying mentally detached from the idea of the title has been key to his strong performance.
“Last season, I was always thinking about making history and focused solely on the title,” Martin admitted. “This year, I didn’t think about it at all during the season. My goal has been to focus on what I can control—riding the motorbike at 100% and giving my best performance. At the end of last season, I wasn’t able to do that, but now I feel strong and ready for a great weekend.”
Martin credited this renewed mindset for his consistency throughout the season, which has brought him to the brink of MotoGP glory.
Consistency: The Key to Championship Success
For Martin, success hasn’t come from focusing solely on the final race but rather from maintaining peak performance across the entire season. He highlighted the importance of consistency in building a championship campaign.
“I heard a quote from a fighter: ‘I win the championship during training,’” Martin said. “For us, every race is a step toward the title, and in the final round, you earn the medal. The work we’ve done all season is what has put us in this position. Now, we just need to figure out what’s required to take that medal home.”
Martin also praised his Pramac Racing team for their role in his success, emphasizing their understanding of what’s needed to secure the championship.
Preparing for a Two-Day Fight
While Martin has the opportunity to clinch the title during Saturday’s Sprint race by outscoring Bagnaia by two points, he anticipates that the battle may extend to Sunday’s main event.
“I think I can race without worrying about anyone else—just focusing on myself,” Martin said. “If I can take the title on Saturday, I will, but I believe the fight will continue into Sunday. I’m prepared for that and will stay competitive throughout the weekend.”
Eyes on the Prize
Jorge Martin’s journey to the MotoGP title has been marked by resilience, consistency, and a focused mindset. As he approaches the decisive Barcelona weekend, his ability to remain calm under pressure and ride at his best could see him achieve his lifelong dream of becoming a world champion. Whether the title is secured on Saturday or Sunday, Martin is ready to go the distance and prove why he deserves the crown.
