MotoGP News: ‘A Career Revived by Gresini’ Marc Marquez Pays Last Tribute To Gresini For
Marc Márquez Thanks Gresini for ‘Rebuilding’ His Confidence with a Touching Tribute”
Marc Márquez, who is set to join the Lenovo Ducati factory team in 2025, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to his 2024 team, Gresini Racing, for helping him regain his confidence and revitalize his MotoGP career. The six-time MotoGP champion credited Gresini for giving him a second chance after a challenging period, and he said the best way to show his appreciation was to secure a podium finish at the Solidarity Grand Prix in Barcelona.
A Career Revived by Gresini
After enduring three difficult seasons with Honda, where uncompetitive machinery and recurring injuries hindered his performance, Márquez made a bold move to join Gresini Racing for the 2024 season. The switch marked a turning point in his career as he sought to rebuild his form and confidence. Despite the odds, Márquez managed to secure three race victories this season, proving his enduring talent and paving the way for his transition to the Ducati factory team in 2025.
Reflecting on his struggles and recovery, Márquez spoke candidly about his pride in overcoming the challenges that nearly ended his career, including severe shoulder injuries. After finishing second in Barcelona, he said:
“From my personal point of view, the comeback I’ve made over the last four years is something I’m truly proud of. Let’s see what we can achieve in the next two years with the official team. We know we’ll have a strong teammate and a key reference in the garage since he’s won 11 races this year and has been incredibly fast on every track.”
The Role of Gresini in His Comeback
Márquez emphasized how pivotal Gresini Racing was during one of the lowest points of his career, describing the team as instrumental in helping him “rebuild” himself as a rider. He expressed his deep gratitude to both Honda, for understanding his decision to leave, and Gresini, for giving him the platform to revive his career.
“They became an incredibly important team in my career because I arrived at a very tough moment. Moving to Gresini was crucial for me. I want to thank Honda for understanding my situation and Gresini for giving me this opportunity. All season, I’ve been working hard, and I found a fantastic group that helped me regain my confidence. That podium finish was the best way to say ‘thank you.’”
Fighting for the Team
Márquez also revealed how his conversation with Gresini Racing team manager Michele Masini inspired him to push harder for a podium finish in Barcelona. While a third-place finish in the championship standings wasn’t personally significant to Márquez, he understood how much it meant to the satellite team.
“Third place in the championship doesn’t change my life, but for a satellite team, it’s a big deal. I asked Michele Masini, ‘Is finishing third important for the team?’ He said, ‘Maybe we get some bonus,’ so I understood. I gave everything to finish the race on the podium for them.”
Looking Ahead to Ducati
As Márquez prepares to join Ducati’s factory team, he looks forward to the challenge of competing alongside a strong teammate and riding for the sport’s top team. However, his time with Gresini will remain a defining chapter in his career—a period where he proved to himself and the MotoGP world that he still has what it takes to fight at the top.
