Marc Marquez Parts Ways with Red Bull and Prepares for a New Chapter with Ducati in MotoGP
After enduring four challenging years with Honda, six-time MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez closed the 2024 season on a high note. Competing on the Gresini Desmosedici GP23, Marquez claimed three significant victories at Aragon, Misano, and Phillip Island, finishing third in the overall standings. His impressive comeback has secured him a spot with the Lenovo Ducati Team for 2025, where he aims to reclaim his position at the top of the sport.
Reflecting on a Turning Point with Gresini Racing
At a gala event in Salzburg, Marquez shared his thoughts on his transition season with Gresini:
“From the beginning, my relationship with Team Gresini was excellent. Yes, there were mechanical issues, but mistakes happen. What made the difference was the welcoming atmosphere—coming back to the pits after a problem and being greeted warmly by your team is something special.”
This supportive environment played a crucial role in helping Marquez regain his confidence and competitiveness. It also paved the way for his move to Ducati’s factory team, where he will partner with reigning champion Pecco Bagnaia.
Embracing New Challenges with Ducati
Marquez acknowledges the challenges that come with joining Ducati, a team that has dominated MotoGP in recent years.
“I’m entering the world champion team, and that comes with pressure—but it’s a step I wanted to take. Leaving my comfort zone at Honda was necessary. I had the chance, and I took it. Next year, I’ll need to adopt a different mindset.”
For Marquez, this move represents a shift in dynamics. “At Honda, I was the clear number one rider, and new teammates were always trying to match me. Now, I’m entering a team where Pecco has already achieved so much.”
A Respectful Farewell to Red Bull
One significant change for Marquez is the end of his longstanding partnership with Red Bull, which has supported him throughout his career. Ducati’s primary sponsor, Monster Energy, creates a sponsorship conflict, meaning Marquez will no longer have a personal sponsor.
“Ducati has a different sponsor, so Red Bull and I can’t continue together. But out of respect for them, I won’t have a personal sponsor. I want to thank the Red Bull family for all they’ve done, and I hope we stay close.”
Looking Ahead to 2025
With renewed motivation, top-tier equipment, and optimal physical health, Marquez is gearing up for what could be a defining chapter of his career. Fans and rivals alike are eagerly anticipating the 2025 MotoGP season, where Marquez, now reinvigorated and partnered with Ducati, could once again become the rider to beat.
