Andrea Dovizioso has expressed confidence that Marc Marquez’s transition to Ducati will not repeat the mistakes of previous high-profile signings like Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi. Unlike those earlier moves, Dovizioso believes Marquez’s arrival comes at a time when Ducati is already at the top of its game, with the best bike on the MotoGP grid.

“The situation may seem similar but it is different,” Dovizioso explained to GPOne. “Lorenzo was signed because there were people inside Ducati who didn’t believe in the riders they had chosen to win. With Marc, it’s a matter of preference, as they already have a champion and a winning bike.”

Ducati’s history with big names, like Lorenzo’s stint in 2017, did not yield the expected success, but Dovizioso insists Marquez’s move is different. “Pecco should focus on his own abilities and potential, without paying too much attention to external factors,” Dovizioso advised Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia, emphasizing the importance of self-focus amid such high-profile team dynamics.

However, not everyone shares Dovizioso’s optimism. Valentino Rossi, a legend in his own right, has expressed some doubts about Marquez’s ability to integrate seamlessly into the Ducati setup. Rossi, who had his own challenging stint with Ducati, highlighted that the team’s dynamics and bike characteristics might pose significant challenges for Marquez, despite his talent.

“Marc is undoubtedly a great rider,” Rossi reportedly said, “but Ducati has its own unique challenges. It’s not just about the bike’s performance; it’s about adapting to the team’s way of working, something not every rider manages successfully.”

Rossi’s skepticism introduces an element of uncertainty into what many view as a powerhouse pairing of Ducati’s machinery with Marquez’s skill. Whether Marquez can defy Rossi’s concerns and thrive at Ducati remains to be seen, but the upcoming season promises to be one of the most intriguing yet.
