Netflix Digs Deep into Rock History: Explosive Hellacopters Documentary Set to Shake the Streaming World
Netflix is turning up the volume with an electrifying new documentary centered on Swedish rock legends The Hellacopters, aiming to chronicle the raw, rebellious energy of one of Scandinavia’s most iconic bands. Set for release on November 30, this exclusive rockumentary promises never-before-seen footage, behind-the-scenes stories, and brutally honest interviews that trace the band’s rise, breakup, and ultimate return to the stage.
Formed in 1994 by Nicke Andersson (also known for his work with Entombed and Imperial State Electric), The Hellacopters crashed onto the music scene with a blistering sound that fused garage rock, punk, and classic rock into an adrenaline-charged style all their own. Their debut album, Supershitty to the Max!, won a Swedish Grammy and marked the beginning of a wild, high-octane career that would eventually influence rock acts far beyond Scandinavia.
According to early production sources, the Netflix documentary will chart the band’s entire evolution—from their chaotic early days and landmark albums like Payin’ the Dues and High Visibility, to their unexpected hiatus in 2008 and triumphant return nearly a decade later. Fans can expect candid moments with Nicke Andersson and other core members, as well as testimonials from global rock artists who were inspired by The Hellacopters’ uncompromising approach to music.
The documentary will also touch on the tragic death of original guitarist Robert “Strings” Dahlqvist in 2017, offering an emotional look into the personal struggles behind the music. Through intimate interviews and rare backstage footage, the film will capture not only the band’s gritty determination but also the brotherhood and heartbreak that defined their journey.
Produced in collaboration with key figures from the Nordic rock scene, and backed by Netflix’s signature high production values, this film aims to do more than just celebrate The Hellacopters—it seeks to enshrine them as one of rock’s most underrated powerhouse acts.
With the resurgence of interest in classic and alternative rock, the timing couldn’t be better. The Hellacopters’ recent reunion album Eyes of Oblivion proved that the band still has plenty of fire, and this documentary is poised to introduce their story to a whole new generation of listeners.
Whether you’re a long-time fan or discovering them for the first time, this documentary is shaping up to be a must-watch for anyone who craves loud guitars, rebellious spirit, and the untold story of a band that refused to follow the rules.
