Red Sox Plotting to Trade Rafael Devers? Fan Base in Shock Over Rumors
Red Sox Fans Furious as Rafael Devers Trade Rumors Spiral Out of Control — Is Boston Planning the Unthinkable?
Rafael Devers Trade Buzz Reaches Absurd Levels — Red Sox’s Loyalty in Question
Rafael Devers, one of Major League Baseball’s most electric sluggers, is suddenly the subject of trade rumors that have fans and analysts scratching their heads — and in some cases, fuming. Despite being locked into a long-term contract and holding down the hot corner as Boston’s franchise cornerstone, speculation has erupted around the idea that the Red Sox could explore dealing Devers either this offseason or at the trade deadline.
Let’s be clear: there’s zero logical reason Boston would part ways with Devers. The 27-year-old signed a massive 10-year, $313.5 million contract that keeps him in Beantown through 2033. He’s a homegrown All-Star and the face of the franchise. Yet, somehow, the trade chatter continues to grow louder — and more absurd.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller fanned the flames by recently naming ten possible destinations for Devers if Boston were to go nuclear and explore a deal. His No. 4 pick? The Philadelphia Phillies — a team already pushing the limits of financial flexibility.
“This hypothetical trade would be a major — maybe even unworkable — financial stretch for Philly,” Miller wrote. “Their Opening Day payroll for 2025 was already $40 million above their previous high. Even dreaming of landing Devers means they’re playing financial Jenga.”
The entire idea hinges on Alec Bohm, Philly’s current third baseman, who had a strong first half but stumbled badly down the stretch last year — including a postseason meltdown. If Bohm’s struggles continue, Miller speculates the Phillies could grow desperate enough to chase a blockbuster fix like Devers.
But even entertaining such a move in Boston feels outlandish. The Red Sox are finally back on the rise, after a few rebuilding seasons, and moving their most productive hitter would be a backward step.
Yes, there were murmurs of in-house disagreements during Spring Training about defensive assignments, with chatter around both third and first base. But internal adjustments aren’t grounds for dealing away a generational talent.
Still, the smoke refuses to clear. Baseball Twitter and rumor mills are on overdrive, pushing narratives that could unsettle even the most grounded clubhouse. For now, the front office has remained silent — and Devers himself hasn’t commented publicly.
But for fans who’ve watched him become one of the most consistent forces in the AL, the idea of Boston shipping him out is nothing short of betrayal.
If the front office lets this fire continue to burn unchecked, they risk igniting a fan revolt — and rewriting the future of the franchise for all the wrong reasons.
