King Diamond’s Life Is Darker Than His Albums—Netflix Plans to Show You Why
Netflix Announces Production of King Diamond Docuseries: “Abigail’s Curse – The Legacy of a Metal Legend”
In a thrilling revelation for heavy metal fans around the world, Netflix has officially announced the production of a new docuseries chronicling the life and legacy of King Diamond, the iconic Danish frontman and master of theatrical metal storytelling. Titled “Abigail’s Curse – The Legacy of a Metal Legend”, the series is set to begin filming later this year and promises a rare glimpse into the mind and mythology behind one of metal’s most enigmatic figures.
Known for his haunting falsetto, corpse-painted visage, and elaborate horror concept albums, King Diamond (born Kim Bendix Petersen) rose to fame as the lead vocalist of Mercyful Fate before launching his influential solo career. With cult classics like Abigail, Them, and Conspiracy, he carved out a niche that merged horror storytelling, operatic performance, and crushing metal riffs into something wholly unique.
Netflix’s new docuseries will explore not only King Diamond’s rise through the metal underground of the early ’80s, but also the lasting impact his work has had on artists from Metallica and Slayer to Ghost and Behemoth. According to the producers, the series will feature rare archival footage, exclusive interviews with bandmates, collaborators, and fans, and dramatic reenactments inspired by King’s gothic album narratives.
“He didn’t just sing songs—he built worlds,” said an unnamed Netflix executive. “We’re not just telling his story; we’re telling the story of how he reshaped heavy metal into performance art.”
The series will also tackle the philosophical and personal side of the musician—his deep interest in the occult, his health struggles including a major heart surgery in 2010, and his unlikely resurgence in the streaming era as a revered elder statesman of metal.
King Diamond himself is reported to be consulting on the project, providing access to personal archives and even hinting at new material to accompany the release.
“It’s strange to see your life become a documentary,” the notoriously private singer was quoted as saying. “But if we’re going to tell the story, we’ll tell it right—no filters, no edits, just pure evil… in the best way.”
“Abigail’s Curse” will be produced by the same team behind Netflix’s successful Trainwreck: Woodstock ‘99 and This Is Pop, promising a polished, in-depth treatment of a musician often overlooked by mainstream media but worshipped by generations of metal fans.
With the resurgence of interest in legacy metal bands and the continued rise of theatrical acts in pop culture, Netflix is clearly betting that King Diamond’s story—equal parts music history, horror cinema, and underground rebellion—will strike a chord well beyond the mosh pit.
“Abigail’s Curse – The Legacy of a Metal Legend” is slated for release in 2026.
