Walter Mazzarri is named the next coach of Napoli.

The Serie A team announced on Tuesday that former manager Walter Mazzarri has been named as the new coach of Italian champions Napoli.

After Empoli’s loss left the previous season’s winners with 21 points, 10 behind leaders Inter Milan in the rankings, the 62-year-old replaces Rudi Garcia.

After drawing three more games, Napoli is currently in fourth position in the league, two points behind third-place AC Milan and eight behind second-place Juventus. Napoli has lost three of their first twelve league games, with the other two losses coming at home from Lazio and Fiorentina.

As Garcia’s strategies failed to yield a result against the team presently 17th in the rankings, Napoli fell 1-0 at home to Empoli on Sunday, capping an unimpressive start to the season.

After Luciano Spalletti quit in June after Napoli won their first Scudetto since 1990, Garcia took over at the team, but they now run the risk of losing this season’s championship campaign.

Napoli led Serie A at the same point the previous season with 10 victories, 2 draws, and no losses.

After leading Napoli from 2009 to 2013, Mazzarri is back for a second stint.

After finishing sixth in his first season of 2009–10, he assisted Napoli in making it to the Champions League group stage the next year.
