Odyssey of Ilkay Gundogan: An unexpected turn to the Barcelona
Despite his crucial position, recent Turkish sources reveal an unexpected development: Gundogan may be considering a move to Galatasaray, and he appears willing to go above and beyond to make it happen.
Prominent journalist Burhan Can Terzi disclosed via SPORT that Galatasaray agents had discussions with Gundogan in Germany regarding a potential transfer following the Champions League match against Bayern Munich in early November.
Terzi claims that Gundogan is determined to finish his career wearing the Galatasaray jersey since the team has held a special place in his heart since he was a young boy. “Gundogan conveyed to his agent that he is approaching the twilight of his career and wishes to sport the Galatasaray colours before retiring,” told the reporter.
Terzi conducted additional investigation and found that “Gundogan expressed his readiness to discuss this matter with Barcelona.” Galatasaray is apparently doing everything in their power to sign him because they understand the potential impact he may have in front of their ardent fan base.
Given his lifelong passion for Turkey, Gundogan acknowledged in a recent statement the oddity of maybe playing Turkey with the German national team. With a substantial €400 million release clause, the midfield player has committed to a three-year contract with Barcelona.
