Newcastle United is ‘closely monitoring’ Norway’s £10m-rated star

Newcastle United have long been fans of Norway international Julian Ryerson.

The Magpies are looking to add a left-back to their squad in the new year and have already identified a player they’ve played against in the Champions League as their preferred target.

Newcastle United recruitment staff are said to have followed Borussia Dortmund star Ryerson ‘for some time’ as he continues to make an impact for the German giants in the Bundesliga and Champions League.

Ryerson missed Dortmund’s 1-0 win at St James Park in October due to illness, but he did play the entire 90 minutes as the Magpies were defeated 2-0 in the rematch last month.  His performance this season has piqued the interest of several clubs, and he has two goals and one assist in 15 appearances across all competitions.

The Norwegian international joined Dortmund from Bundesliga rivals Union Berlin in January for £3.5 million, and he quickly settled into life in front of the famous yellow wall, scoring on his debut in a seven-goal thriller against Augsberg.

“It was an amazing feeling to experience the yellow wall,” he said after winning. It was great fun. Several times during the game, I looked up.  It’s challenging as a new player. My teammates, on the other hand, have been extremely welcoming. “I feel very at ease here.””The first contact with BVB was not long ago. I’m honored that such a prestigious club was interested in signing me. Now I’m really excited about the challenge.”

There’s no word on whether Ryerson would be willing to limit his stay in Dortmund to a year, and the report claims there’s ‘nothing concrete at the moment,’ despite revealing the defender is being ‘closely monitored’ by several Premier League clubs.
