New Packers RB Kenyan Drake Shares His First Thoughts On Team
With star running back Aaron Jones still dealing with nagging injury issues, the Green Bay Packers made a move at running back on Tuesday to shore up the position. Kenyan Drake was signed to the practice squad to fill the vacancy left by James Robinson.
If Jones is unable to play, Drake, an NFL veteran, should be able to step in and find an immediate role in Week 14.
When Jones has been unable to play, the Packers‘ workhorse running back has been AJ Dillon. He’s done a good job, but Green Bay has wished for a reliable backup running back. They haven’t been able to recover it, but Drake has a lot of potential to fill that role.
Drake wasted no time in talking about his new team after signing with the Packers. His quote was provided by NFL insider Josina Anderson.
“I felt the energy in the building today.” It was legendary, and you can sense their legacy and bright future. I’m eager to get started and assist them in taking the next step toward their ultimate goal.”
Those are not the words of a player who does not expect to be a part of something in Green Bay. Although it is only a practice squad deal, with rumors that Jones will miss Week 14 against the Giants, Drake will almost certainly be promoted to the 53-man roster.
Drake has appeared in just two games this season, both with the Baltimore Ravens. He carried the football once for no yards in those appearances. Drake racked up 482 yards and four touchdowns on 109 carries in 12 games with the Ravens last season.
Drake, 29, is simply looking for a chance to prove that he can make an impact. He might have found that opportunity with the Packers.
Tune in to Monday Night Football on ESPN at 8:15 p.m. EST to see the Packers take on the Giants in Week 14. Green Bay will try to win their fourth game in a row to put themselves even more in the thick of the NFC playoff race.
