Pep Guardiola pushes Man City coaches away in a rage with the fourth official.
A moving image Pep Guardiola was forced to push angry Manchester City staff members away as he argued with fourth official Craig Pawson at halftime, with his team trailing 1-0 to Luton Town.
The incident occurred just minutes after the hosts’ Elijah Adebayo had broken the deadlock against the run of play.
While speaking with the official, Guardiola told three members of Manchester City’s coaching staff to leave Pawson alone. As the cameras panned away, Guardiola could be seen laughing ironically at Pawson’s response.
Sky Sports, which was covering the game, claimed that Guardiola was enraged because Adebayo’s goal came at the end of two minutes of extra time.
However, Adebayo’s pointblank header came at 46:56, just four seconds before the game’s end.
The 25-year-old’s goal came at the end of a half in which the Premier League champions missed a number of golden opportunities. Luton had Thomas Kaminski to thank after he brilliantly denied Phil Foden just before the break.
City entered Sunday’s match against the Hatters without a win in four league games, having dropped points against Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Aston Villa.
They were also forced to do without star striker Erling Haaland, who is out with a foot injury. Worryingly, Guardiola was unable to provide a timetable for the Norwegian’s absence in the run-up to the game.
When asked about Haaland, he told Sky Sports that he had “bone stress reaction in his feet.” He is unable to play after the game against Villa. I’m not sure; we’ll see what happens week by week, day by day.”
