After 14 games, the ‘worst manager in Premier League history’ is fired again.
Former Crystal Palace manager Frank De Boer has been fired by Al-Jazira in the UAE after only 14 games.
Palace fired the Dutch football legend in 2017 after he lost his first five Premier League games. After criticizing Jose Mourinho as a pundit, the then-Manchester United manager labeled him “the worst manager in the history of the Premier League.”
Unfortunately for De Boer, 53, he has only provided Mourinho with more fodder if he ever criticizes the Roma manager again. His most recent outing has turned out to be one of his worst.
De Boer took over the Middle Eastern club in the summer, succeeding Marcel Kaizer, another former Ajax manager. Unfortunately for him, De Boer’s tenure as manager of the club did not go as planned.
He got off to a good start, winning four of his first six matches across all competitions. A run of four defeats in his last six matches, however, proved to be the final nail in his coffin.
Frank De Boer was fired shortly after his team was eliminated from the UAE League Cup by Al-Wahda. While De Boer seeks a place to lick his wounds, fans were reminded of Mourinho’s damning remarks.
After De Boer stated that Mourinho would not be a good coach for Marcus Rashford, Mourinho slammed the former Inter Milan manager. In a press conference in 2018, he stated, “I read something, some quote from the worst manager in Premier League history – Frank de Boer.”
“What he was saying was that Marcus Rashford should not have a coach like me because the most important thing for me is to win.” He would lose if Frank coached him because he lost every game. I do my best to give the child the best.”
After his disastrous tenure at Selhurst Park, he took over as manager of Atlanta for 18 months before moving on to Holland. However, his time with his country lasted only 15 games, as he resigned after losing to Czech Republic in the Euro 2020 round of 16.
