Pochettino says Enzo Fernandez asked to be subbed off last night

Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez was ruled out of last night’s game due to illness.

Mauricio Pochettino gave the Argentine the start against Newcastle last night after he didn’t start against Sheffield United at the weekend.

Fernadez was clearly struggling, and he was replaced by Armando Broja after only 32 minutes on the field.

Chelsea supporters were concerned that Fernandez had been injured, but Pochettino confirmed after the game that he was simply ill. The Blues manager also revealed that the midfielder requested to be taken off because he was unable to continue.

According to Football London, Pochettino stated in his post-game press conference, “He asked to go out because he was a little bit sick before the game.”

“He had some stomach problems.” He wanted to play, so he said, “Okay, let’s see how it goes.” That is why, rather than going well, it did not go so well.”
