Larry Bird Accused by JJ Redick of Referee Complaints
The NBA has witnessed how its stars have attempted to receive special treatment from referees based only on their celebrity in recent times. Occasionally, athletes overreach and receive negative feedback from others. LeBron James and Luka Doncic are the two best instances of this, but other players also engage in this activity every night.
These players’ negative reputations within the league as a result of their attitudes are harming the perception of other stars from this era. While some believe that this has made the league “soft,” others are sick of it. Sharpshooter JJ Redick, for example, retired and spoke out in favour of the present age, criticising those who constantly attempt to place the league of thirty or forty years ago above all previous eras.
Redick recently responded to Mike Greenberg’s statement that players in bygone ages never voiced grievances to officials, asserting that such comments are merely nostalgic and have grown tedious for players in the present day.
“Michael Jordan didn’t complain to the officials? Larry Bird didn’t complain? Come on, guys. This nostalgia that you have for the ’80s and ’90s – like, a great era of basketball. It’s awesome, but it’s at the dispense of our generation of players, and it has been for the last 15 years. And it’s annoying.”
These discussions have become more frequent lately in the league. Someone is always attempting to defend the players who were dominant in the 1980s and 90s and the challenges they encountered in those years. Players are still capable of handling all the issues that others faced many years ago, even though times have changed. It’s fantastic that Redick comes up against the harsh and ineffective practice of comparing periods while still supporting the players from his generation.
