A certain Tour de France Femmes superfan is thrilled about the race as he shows warm gestures
Tadej Pogačar Shows His Support for the World’s Largest Women’s Cycling Race
Tadej Pogačar, the winner of the 2024 Tour de France (Hommes), is showing his enthusiasm for the Tour de France Femmes as well. On Monday, his partner, fellow professional cyclist Urška Žigart, shared a photo of the Slovenian champion out on a ride, proudly wearing a Tour de France Femmes hat.
This year marks the third edition of the Tour de France Femmes. The eight-day race will conclude with an epic finish on the legendary Alpe d’Huez, marking the first time this iconic climb is included in the women’s event.
In Stage 1, Charlotte Kool claimed victory in a sprint after Lorena Wiebes dropped her chain. Tuesday’s competition will see riders tackling a double stage. The morning brings a flat 67 km ride from Dordrecht to Rotterdam for Stage 2a, followed by a short 6-km time trial in the afternoon. Stage 4 introduces more challenging terrain with a 122.7 km race from Valkenburg to Liège. Stage 5 moves into France, covering 150 km and finishing in Amnéville. Stage 6 promises to test the riders with four climbs in the latter half of a 160 km course. Stage 7 continues the challenge with several climbs, ending in Le Grand-Bornand. The grand finale is expected to be the highlight—a 150-km race concluding with the iconic ascent of Alpe d’Huez.
The 2024 Tour de France Femmes is the third official running of the race in its current format. While there have been shorter versions under different names, the 2022 edition was the first to run parallel to the men’s race since the 1980s. Despite offering a solid prize purse, Cycling Weekly’s Anne-Marije Rook notes that the 2024 Tour de France Femmes still falls short compared to the men’s event. The women’s race features a prize pool of C$365,000, with $73,000 for the winner, whereas the men’s Tour boasts a $3.65 million prize pool, with $730,000 for the champion.
Six Canadian riders are participating in the race, and fans can catch the action on FloBikes.com. There’s hope that Pogačar will make an appearance on the sidelines to cheer on the professional women riders!
