Aaron Judge Ends “Paw Patrol” Home Run Drought with Grand Slam in Victory Over Red Sox
Aaron Judge Breaks “Paw Patrol” Home Run Slump with Grand Slam Against Red Sox
Aaron Judge, the New York Yankees’ star outfielder, ended a frustrating 16-game home run drought in dramatic fashion, hitting a grand slam to lift his team to a 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox. Judge, who had been struggling since making a cameo appearance on the children’s show “Paw Patrol,” finally broke the slump with a powerful seventh-inning hit that electrified Yankees fans.
The Yankees (86-62) were down four runs when the game entered the seventh inning. However, a series of walks to Anthony Volpe and Alex Verdugo, followed by a single from Gleyber Torres, set the stage for Judge. With the bases loaded after Juan Soto was walked, Judge came up to bat and delivered a massive 369-foot home run over the left field wall. The grand slam brought in Verdugo, Torres, and Soto, giving the Yankees the lead they needed to secure the win.
This home run was Judge’s 52nd of the season, leaving him just 10 homers away from the record 62 he set in 2022. With 14 games remaining in the regular season, Judge has a realistic chance to close the gap. At his current pace of hitting a home run every three games, he could potentially end the season with 57 home runs if he plays in every remaining game.
The Yankees’ bullpen played a key role in securing the win after Judge’s grand slam. After four runs were allowed by Clarke Schmidt and Leiter Jr., Yankees manager Aaron Boone turned to reliever Luke Weaver to hold the Red Sox at bay. Weaver stepped up, striking out three batters in the eighth inning, including Tyler O’Neill, Connor Wong, and Wilyer Abreu. He then returned in the ninth to retire Triston Casas with a strikeout and forced Trevor Story into a pop-out, effectively sealing the win for the Yankees.
Judge’s grand slam not only ended his home run drought but also provided the Yankees with a much-needed boost as they push toward the postseason. Despite his struggles, Judge expressed confidence in his form and looks forward to the final stretch of the season as he aims to surpass his remarkable 2022 record.
