American Ex-Pro Highlights Rival Respect for GP Montreal Winner Tadej Pogacar, Praising His Transparency and…
“Respect for Pogacar Is Easy Due to His Authenticity And Transparency,” Says Former American Pro After GP Montreal Win
After taking a break following his Tour de France victory, Tadej Pogacar wasted no time returning to his top form, winning the 2024 GP Montreal in dominant fashion with a solo attack. With the World Championships in Zurich on the horizon, Pogacar made a powerful statement with his performance. Former American pro cyclist and Vuelta a España stage winner Tom Danielson shared his thoughts on Pogacar’s impressive display on social media.
Danielson praised Pogacar’s tactical approach, noting how his long-range attacks play to his strengths. He pointed out that the shorter climbs made it tough for Pogacar to gain significant distance, even though he was putting out more power than his rivals. He also commended UAE Team Emirates for making the race difficult for others by controlling the pace and limiting the ability of other teams to organize a chase. With Pogacar attacking two laps from the finish, there were enough favorites in the lead group, but none had teammates capable of closing the gap. As a result, the riders ended up attacking each other, allowing Pogacar to extend his lead.
Danielson also highlighted Pogacar’s ability to handle pressure, noting his impressive stamina and strategic thinking during the race. He observed that Pogacar was able to maintain a high pace, even late in the race, due to his excellent hydration and fueling strategies. Despite the intensity of his solo effort, Pogacar made sure to stay hydrated and manage his core temperature, a challenge in such grueling conditions. His physical state, covered in salt, indicated just how tough and hot the race had been.
Danielson further praised Pogacar’s tactical execution, noting how he pedaled through most corners and downhill sections to keep up the pressure on his rivals. Instead of resting during turns or on easier sections of the course, Pogacar maintained his effort, giving him an edge over the competition.
Finally, Danielson noted the respect Pogacar has earned within the peloton. He observed that, like Sepp Kuss, Pogacar high-fived the crowd as he neared the finish line. Even more remarkable was the sight of riders from different teams, who had already dropped out, running to the roadside to high-five Pogacar. Danielson concluded by emphasizing that Pogacar’s transparency and authenticity have earned him widespread admiration, a trait that defines the new generation of cycling champions.
