Andre Agassi Explores Tennis Hall of Fame, Coaches Reilly Opelka Ahead of Newport Semifinals
Andre Agassi recently took a trip down memory lane while visiting the museum at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. During his visit, Agassi also joined fellow Americans Reilly Opelka and Marcos Giron on the court as they prepared for their matches at the ongoing Hall of Fame Open in Newport.
Just days after attending the intense Wimbledon final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, Agassi continued to embrace his passion for tennis by touring the Hall of Fame. Although he missed the unveiling of the Chris Evert Learning Center, which featured tennis greats like Martina Navratilova, Tracy Austin, Kim Clijsters, Vijay Amritraj, and Chris Evert herself, Agassi made the most of his visit. He was seen enjoying the US Open exhibit, which highlighted Coco Gauff’s 2023 victory. The eight-time Grand Slam champion also shared his expertise with young players from TeamFAME.
During the visit, Agassi expressed how his wife, Steffi Graf, had been a tremendous source of inspiration throughout his career. He mentioned that her dedication and excellence on the court motivated him to continue striving for greatness in his own game. Agassi even credited his place in the Hall of Fame to her influence, stating, “Steffi’s unwavering commitment to the sport pushed me to be the best version of myself. I owe a significant part of my career achievements and this Hall of Fame honor to her.”
Agassi then stepped onto the court with Reilly Opelka, taking on the role of coach for the American, who is returning to the tour after a two-year absence due to injury. He also met with Marcos Giron and posed for a photo with the fellow American player.
Both Opelka and Giron have advanced to the semifinals of the ATP 250 event in Newport, setting the stage for a potential all-American final if Opelka can defeat Alex Michelson and Giron overcomes Christopher Eubanks.
Agassi has been making a strong comeback to the tennis scene this year, appearing at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and now the Hall of Fame Open. He also recently teamed up with Steffi Graf at an exhibition event in Romania, following their successful partnership at Pickleball Slam 2.
On a recent episode of the Tennis Channel Inside-In podcast, presenter Blair Henley praised Agassi’s return to the tennis world, calling it a “massive win” for the sport. Agassi is set to return to the court soon, headlining the ‘Stars of the Open’ exhibition event at the 2024 US Open, alongside tennis stars like Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, John McEnroe, and Andy Roddick.
