Arsenal can replace Gabriel Jesus with a £17.25 million January bargain
The transfer window has reopened, and with Arsenal top of the table, there’s plenty to think about. Last year, the Gunners spent more than £60 million ($75 million) to boost their title hopes, not only bringing in Leandro Trossard but also Jorginho and Jakub Kiwior. Football.london examines the world of rumours and potential transfers at the Emirates Stadium.
If you were to ask the Arsenal fanbase which position they believe is in desperate need of reinforcement this winter, the majority of them would say center-forward.
Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have both ridden the wave fairly well and consistently delivered. However, the old cliche of ‘Arsenal just lack the clinical touch’ has been muttered many times this season.
It’s no surprise that Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney’s names have emerged as two trending names in the revolving door of transfer speculation. However, with both Napoli and Brentford aware of Arsenal’s need for a striker, Edu Gaspar may be forced to look elsewhere.
Anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock this season is aware that the Bundesliga has a plethora of talented strikers. With 18 goals for Bayern Munich, Harry Kane has broken records, but he is trailed by Serhou Guirassy, Lois Openda, and Victor Boniface.
And, unlike Osimhen, Toney, or even Viktor Gyokeres, Guirassy will cost less than €20 million (£17.25 million) in January. According to Sky Germany, Manchester United are interested in the 27-year-old, but the deal is one that Arsenal should consider.
When it comes to new strikers, Arsenal isn’t putting all of their eggs in one basket. According to Italian media, the north Londoners are planning a swap move for Salernitana midfielder Boulaye Dia.
The 27-year-old joined the Italian club in 2022, initially on loan, and scored 20 goals in one and a half seasons. Dia, who is under contract until 2026, has sparked a lot of interest ahead of the transfer window, and Arsenal could be at the top of the list.
According to Le Cronache (via Salernotizie), the Gunners are willing to pay £13 million plus Charlie Patino for Dia. Salernitana is currently last in Serie A and may be forced to sell some of their best players.
Patino, who has recently been linked with Juventus, was previously tipped for big things in the Premier League, but he could be used to sign Dia, according to reports.
