Arsenal to pay £60 for 25year old midfielder Douglas Luiz
Aston Villa might put a price of £60 million on Douglas Luiz, a player that Arsenal is keen on. It’s now up to the Gunners to decide whether to proceed with the transfer.
As reported by TEAMtalk, Arsenal would need to offer a minimum of £60 million in January to acquire Douglas Luiz. Aston Villa is not eager to part with the midfielder. However, if they do decide to sell, potential suitors such as Arsenal would likely need to meet the requested price.
Few players in the Premier League resemble Douglas Luiz. After his journey from Manchester City, the Brazilian has carved out a reputation at Aston Villa and is now regarded as a pivotal figure under Unai Emery.
During the summer of 2022, Arsenal made strong attempts to secure his signature. Aston Villa turned down multiple offers from the North London team to retain the Brazilian, despite him nearing the end of his contract. Subsequently, the Premier League club extended the 25-year-old midfielder’s contract and is willing to consider a new offer amidst renewed interest from the Gunners.
What’s fresh in this ongoing situation is Mikel Arteta’s renewed interest in the midfielder. However, Aston Villa has expressed disinterest in a mid-season sale. If Arsenal wants to progress with the deal, they need to be prepared to pay a minimum of £60 million to acquire the Brazilian.
Whether the specified price fits within their budget remains uncertain. Towards the end of the summer window, Arsenal revealed financial concerns. Aston Villa faces no pressure to sell Douglas Luiz presently. However, his choice to stay or move will play a significant role.
Arsenal has prioritized signing a new midfielder in January, considering Luiz as their primary target. This need emerged due to Thomas Partey’s recent injury, keeping him sidelined for another 6-8 weeks. Despite his recovery status, Arteta wants a contingency plan and sees the Aston Villa star as an ideal replacement for the Ghanaian.
The team eyeing the Premier League title has also scouted Martin Zubimendi, a player sharing several similarities with the 25-year-old Brazilian midfielder. Zubimendi could become available for around £52 million by activating a release clause in his Real Sociedad contract, a figure closer to Aston Villa’s £60 million valuation.
