Just weeks after the release of their nostalgic single “Young & Dumb,” Avril Lavigne has confirmed what many longtime fans were secretly hoping for: she and fellow Canadian punk rockers Simple Plan are working on a full collaborative album.

While “Young & Dumb” was initially teased as a one-off, it seems the magic in the studio sparked something more. In a new interview with a Canadian music outlet, Avril opened up about the unexpected joy of reuniting with Simple Plan — not just on tour, but on a deeper musical level.

“Honestly, it feels like coming full circle,” Avril said. “We started out around the same time, from the same part of the world, dreaming the same dreams. Now we’re writing together again, and it just feels like home. We’ve got a ton of songs already. It’s not just one vibe — it’s us growing up, but still keeping that spark alive.”

 “Young & Dumb” Was Just the Beginning

Released in May 2025 as a support single for the second leg of Lavigne’s Greatest Hits Tour, “Young & Dumb” became an instant hit among elder emo fans and new listeners alike. A guitar-driven throwback to early 2000s punk energy, the track honored Avril and Simple Plan’s small-town Canadian beginnings while proving that their sound — and their chemistry — has aged like fine whiskey.

The music video — which features them goofing around a retro motel and singing in an empty pool — captured exactly the kind of warm, rebellious spirit that first launched them to fame. And now, it’s that very energy they’re channeling into their first-ever collaborative album.

 A Shared History, A Shared Future

Fans will remember that Avril and Simple Plan go way back — all the way to her Try To Shut Me Up Tour in 2003, where they opened for her during the early days of her meteoric rise. Over the years, they’ve shared stages, remixes, and countless festival appearances, but never a full album… until now.

“We’ve all changed, of course — we’ve gone through life, success, heartbreak, growing up,” said Chuck Comeau of Simple Plan. “But when we’re in the studio with Avril, it’s like we’re those small-town kids again, trying to make it. Only now we know exactly who we are and what we want to say.”

 What Can Fans Expect?

While no release date has been confirmed, insiders suggest the collaborative project will drop in early 2026 and include at least 10 tracks — half written during breaks on tour, and the rest currently being recorded in Los Angeles and Toronto.

Stylistically, the album is said to mix vintage pop-punk hooks with more mature themes: the messiness of aging, mental health, nostalgia, and a touch of humor about surviving the industry for over two decades.

“It’s very us,” Avril said with a grin. “Raw. Loud. Honest. And a little bit dumb — in the best way.”

Meanwhile, “Young & Dumb” continues to chart, landing at No. 3 on the US Alternative Digital Song Sales and No. 4 on the Rock charts. It’s also gained viral momentum on TikTok, with fans using it for nostalgic montages and throwback-themed reels.

The success has only fueled anticipation for what’s next — both for the album and their joint performance at the All Your Friends Fest in Ontario this June, where they’re rumored to debut another new track live.
