‘Biggest Bandit in Sport’ – Jérôme Pineau Slams Lance Armstrong’s Comments
Lance Armstrong recently commented that “Jan Ullrich, Marco Pantani, and I were treated differently. This is the price to pay when you’re the best in the sport.” These remarks have not been well received by former pro cyclist Jérôme Pineau.
In a vehement response on RMC, Pineau expressed his deep disdain for Armstrong. “It’s all a show with Armstrong. He cheated more than anyone else,” Pineau said. “He bribed everyone, was tyrannical with his teammates, and obnoxious to the peloton.”
Pineau criticized Armstrong for his disregard for rules, stating, “He lumps everyone together with his statements. He was the strongest because he cheated more than the others! He bought the system! He is the biggest criminal in sports history.”
Despite Armstrong maintaining his presence in the cycling world through his ‘The Move’ podcast with Johan Bruyneel and George Hincapie, Pineau sees no place for him in the sport. “Shut up!” Pineau demands. “He corrupted entire generations, including me. He may have been talented, but he tyrannized the peloton and had the entire political and sporting system behind him. Not everyone was like him, not me nor the guys on my team.”
“Don’t claim you paid for others! We weren’t all like you! I can’t stand hearing him talk like this; he’s been cheating his whole life,” Pineau concludes his passionate outburst.
