After trading, former Celtic Grant Williams takes a subtle jab at the Mavericks.
After offering Williams a four-year, $53.3 million contract this offseason, Dallas moved the former Celtics forward to the Hornets over the NBA trade deadline last week, ending Williams’ shockingly brief time with the Mavericks.
In his 32 minutes off the bench during his Hornets debut on Saturday, Williams finished with 15 points on 5-for-11 shooting and 8 rebounds.
The outspoken Williams seemed to take a subtle jab at what he saw to be the selfish behaviors of his old club during his first game with Charlotte. He immediately seemed to be enjoying his time with the Hornets considerably more than his time with the Mavericks.
According to William’s transcript by Brian Robb of Mass Live, It’s great to get a win for the city and play for the jersey that’s across your chest, not on your back” was what reporters said. “We were a team that never played together, but we trusted each other, and everyone seemed to have each other’s backs when they touched the ball.
Williams fluctuated between starting and starting off the bench with the Mavericks, never really settling into a groove. With the Mavericks, he started 33 of 47 games and averaged 8.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest.
Williams never backs down from a fight, so the Hornets’ April 9 tilt against the Mavericks should be exciting. Williams has two more games left in the regular season against the Celtics.
