Brentford denounced racial remarks directed at Onyeka.
Brentford, a Premier League club, has strongly denounced racist comments aimed at its midfielder, Frank Onyeka.
Following the Bees’ dramatic success at Stamford Bridge last Saturday, the Nigerian received hateful insults on social media.
Thomas Frank’s team defeated Chelsea 2-0 thanks to goals from Ethan Pinnock and Bryan Mbeumo.
Onyeka entered the game as a 63rd-minute substitution.
Brentford released a statement on their official website condemning the attack.
“Last night, another incidence of disgusting, racist abuse was directed towards one of our players, this time Frank Onyeka, on social media,” says a statement on the club’s official website.
“It is hugely disappointing that one of our players has had to deal with this yet again.”The Online Safety Bill was enacted this week, and we believe that its implementation will make social media safer, as well as help our efforts to hold these cowards and the social media corporations themselves accountable.
“At this time, Frank has our full support as we launch our investigations with the authorities.”
“We remain committed to tackling discrimination throughout our game.”
