
CAF names 85 referees for the 2023 AFCON preparatory course, but no Nigerians are among them.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named 85 referees for a training course in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2023.
There were no Nigerian referees on the CAF shortlist revealed on Tuesday.
Centre referees, assistant referees, video assistant referees (VAR), technical instructors, physical trainers, VAR technicians, and IT support are all on the list.
Egypt and Algeria have the most referees on the list, each with three.
Four VAR referees from Mauritius, South Africa, Morocco, and Egypt were chosen. Seven technical teachers and physical trainers were chosen from Zimbabwe, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Morocco, and Djibouti.
The Nigerian Super Eagles are one of 24 countries who will fight for the AFCON championship in 2023.
The competition will be held in Cote d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
