Chelsea’s star has agreed to another Saudi Arabia deal to calm FFP fears with a points deduction warning.
According to a recent report, Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has already agreed to join Saudi Arabia on a contract worth “millions” next summer. Following his less-than-ideal return, the Belgian forward has struggled to secure a permanent departure from the club.
The Blues spent just under £100 million to bring the striker back to Stamford Bridge, where they desperately needed a goal scorer. Under Thomas Tuchel, he started well, finding his scoring touch and bringing a tangible threat to a team that was competing for the Premier League early on.
That dwindled as injury and fitness issues arose, along with a player interview in which he criticized how the head coach was using him. Relations appeared to be strained from the start, as he made little impact after that, returning to Inter Milan on loan the following season.
Lukaku, hoping for a full sale, remained linked with a move, but suggestions that he could join a rival appeared to sour his relationship with the Nerazzurri. Lukaku’s former club signed new forward options, forcing him to choose between a move to Saudi Arabia and another loan deal.
He chose the latter, joining Jose Mourinho at AS Roma, pushing questions about a permanent Chelsea exit down the road. Since then, there has been uncertainty about his future, but it appears that this may be resolved soon, bringing the entire saga to a close.
According to journalist Fabio Santini, the striker has already agreed to a transfer to Saudi Arabia. “Lukaku?” he told TVPlay. Juve is difficult to recall because he has already agreed to a million-dollar offer from Saudi Arabia. I tell Roma fans that one thing is certain: Romelu will leave at the end of the season.”
Chelsea have already sent Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly to Saudi Arabia in the last year, while N’Golo Kante’s contract expired, allowing him to move there for free. Any sale for Lukaku will also provide the Blues with some market leverage in terms of financial rules.
Their excessive spending appears set to continue, despite questions about their finances and a recent warning following Everton’s ten-point deduction, but the club insists they are not in violation of any rules.
