Cole Palmer explains why he left Manchester City for Chelsea in the English Premier League.
Cole Palmer, Chelsea’s summer addition, has explained why he chose the Blues over Premier League champions Manchester City.
During the summer transfer window, Palmer signed a long-term contract with Chelsea.
The 21-year-old, who played in England’s Under 21 win over Luxembourg on Monday, stated that he joined Mauricio Pochettino’s side because he wanted more first-team opportunities.
“I’m not saying I shied away from the competition (for places at Man City), because I have never done that,” Palmer stated, as quoted by Metro UK, in defending his decision to join the west London club.
“I’d been around the first team for a few years and wanted more opportunities to play – in my position and with more impact.”
“It was a big decision [to move to Chelsea].” I knew I was traveling to London the next day when I left the training site on Thursday. It all hit me as I sat in my car, about to drive away. “You’ve been here 15 years,” I was thinking.
“I’m not sure what the difference is. I’ve never borrowed anything. I’ve never moved away from Manchester. I’ve only ever traveled outside of Manchester on vacation or away games. Going there feels strange, but there is no time to spend. I need to get started.”
