Diana Taurasi Questions Refs over Flagrant foul on Caitlin Clark
Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi is speaking out after a controversial foul was called on Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark during Saturday’s game. The hard foul, which was deemed a flagrant 1 by the league after the game, occurred when Clark was shoulder-checked by Chicago Sky’s Chennedy Carter before the ball was inbounded.
Taurasi took to social media to question the referees’ decision, calling the foul “unacceptable” and demanding greater accountability from officials. “When will the consistent complaints be heard?!” Taurasi wrote. “Something has to be done!”
Fever coach Christie Sides also weighed in, saying that the team has been sending plays in which Clark has been “getting hammered” to the WNBA for review. Clark, who finished the game with 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, has been subject to physical play all season, and Taurasi believes it’s time for the league to take action.
The incident has sparked a larger conversation about player safety and the need for greater protection from officials. As one of the most experienced players in the league, Taurasi’s voice carries weight, and her advocacy for Clark and other players is a welcome development for fans and players alike.
