The city of Dublin is set to pay tribute to one of its most beloved sons, comedian Dave Allen, with a statue in his honour. The iconic comedian, known for his biting wit and irreverent style, will be immortalized in bronze in 2025.

The Dublin City Council has approved plans for the statue, which will be erected in Tallaght, Allen’s birthplace. The project aims to celebrate Allen’s contributions to Irish comedy and his enduring legacy.

“Dave Allen’s impact on Irish comedy is immeasurable,” said Lord Mayor of Dublin, Caroline Conroy. “This statue will serve as a lasting tribute to his genius and ensure his memory continues to inspire future generations.”

The statue’s design will be chosen through a public competition, with local artists encouraged to submit their visions. The project is expected to cost €200,000, with funding provided by the Dublin City Council and private donors.

Allen’s family has welcomed the news, saying, “We’re thrilled that Dave’s hometown is recognizing his achievements. He would be delighted to know his legacy lives on in Dublin.”

The statue is slated for unveiling in summer 2025, coinciding with the 89th anniversary of Allen’s birth.
