Red Bull Bora-hansgrohe Poaches Visma’s Star Nutritionist as They Bolster Team for 2025
The transfer trend from Team Visma | Lease a Bike to Red Bull Bora-hansgrohe continues, and it’s not just riders making the leap. After securing Primož Roglič and Jan Tratnik, the German team has now added Asker Jeukendrup, a highly regarded nutritionist, to its roster for the 2025 season.
Jeukendrup brings an impressive résumé to Bora-hansgrohe, having previously worked with elite football clubs Chelsea and PSV Eindhoven. He also served as head of performance nutrition at Red Bull’s Athlete Performance Center while working with Visma. However, the growing emphasis on Red Bull’s presence in cycling has made his dual commitments untenable.
Speaking to *Wielerflits*, Jeukendrup shared his bittersweet decision:
“I always managed to balance my role at Visma with my work at Red Bull. But this year, as Red Bull ramps up its focus on cycling, it has become increasingly challenging to maintain that balance. With a heavy heart, I will leave the Dutch team.”
Red Bull Bora-hansgrohe has enjoyed a strong debut year in cycling, highlighted by Primož Roglič’s historic fourth victory at the Vuelta a España in September. However, their ambitions extend further, particularly targeting the Tour de France in 2025. Jeukendrup is eager to contribute to the team’s success, stepping into a dual role that merges his expertise in nutrition with strategic and managerial responsibilities.
“I will have two functions within the team,” Jeukendrup explained. “One is as head of nutrition, and the other involves strategic and management tasks. I’m excited about this new challenge.”
This latest acquisition reflects Red Bull Bora-hansgrohe’s commitment to building a comprehensive support system for their riders, aiming for dominance on the world stage. With Roglič leading the charge and Jeukendrup providing top-tier nutritional strategies, the team is positioning itself as a formidable force in the cycling world.
