Guardiola ‘99.99%’ positive Man City repeat treble won’t happen
In addition to being heavy favourites to win the FA Cup and Champions League again, the champions are also expected to win the Premier League four times in a row.
Guardiola believes it is unlikely since winning those titles in back-to-back seasons would be unique. In the past year, he has also won the European Super Cup and Club World Cup.
There is a 99.99 percent chance that we won’t win the triple crown.
During a press conference, the Spaniard remarked, “Sextuple,’seventuple’? It’s a fable. It’s not as simple as that.
Because it has never been done before, there is a 99.99 percent chance that we won’t win the triple. The likelihood of repeating it is quite slim (thumb and index finger are barely visible).
“If it had been simple, another side at the time—Manchester United—would have succeeded. It’s not simple.
In this business, everything is really challenging. There is simply no guarantee of anything based on what we have already done.
The fact that we are still there is what I like. We are in the other contests and near the top of the league.
“Hopefully, we’ll arrive in March and April feeling the same way. If so, we’ll compete for the titles in May.” This is the intended recipient.
With nine straight victories across all competitions, City looks to be regaining momentum at the ideal moment.
However, Jack Grealish’s performance has declined while players like Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden have received recognition for their play and Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne have returned from injury.
The England international was a major contributor to the treble victory of the previous season, but he hasn’t performed as well this year and hasn’t started any of City’s last four games.
His most recent quiet phase follows a disturbing event in December when his home was broken into when he was playing a match at Everton and his fiancée and family were inside.
Guardiola concedes that might have had an impact on him.
“I’m pretty sure it affected him; it’s not easy what happened with him, his girlfriend, and his family.”But he did a great job managing it. He is a remarkable individual possessing extraordinary humanity.
“We have attempted to assist him here with people and security at his disposal, but it has occurred. We haven’t talked about the topic recently, so maybe everything is alright.
Guardiola noted that Grealish’s inactivity was mostly caused by the performance of other players.
“It’s not a big, big problem—quite the opposite,” he declared. He is up against really skilled players. He’s taking action to get back to his best shape. Both Jack and everyone else are essential.
