Legendary coach Charles “Lefty” Driesell is set to reunite with the Maryland Terrapins in an upcoming matchup, honoring his iconic tenure with the team. Driesell, who coached the Terrapins from 1969 to 1986, will be recognized for his contributions to the program.
During his 17-year stint, Driesell led the Terrapins to eight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Final Four berth in 1974. He compiled a 348-159 record, making him the winningest coach in program history.
“I’m thrilled to be back with my Terrapin family,” Driesell said. “It’s a great opportunity to relive some amazing memories and celebrate the team’s rich history.”
The Terrapins will wear throwback jerseys and hold a pre-game ceremony to honor Driesell’s achievements. Current coach Kevin Willard praised Driesell’s impact, saying, “Lefty’s legacy continues to inspire us. We’re excited to celebrate his contributions and make him proud.”
