Reflecting on his win and the unexpected exits of top players, World No. 1 Sinner emphasized the importance of staying focused and continuously raising his level as the tournament progresses. He acknowledged the unpredictability of tennis and noted that each opponent in the second week deserves their spot, requiring him to stay concentrated on his side of the court.
“The journey itself is the most beautiful thing, regardless of the results,” Sinner remarked. “Every day is crucial as I strive to improve both as a person and a player. The results are a reflection of the effort put into the game.”
Sinner showcased his ambitions with a commanding performance, winning the first five games and dominating the match. He registered 15 aces, broke O’Connell’s serve five times, and finished with an impressive 46 winners compared to 22 unforced errors.
O’Connell admitted to feeling overwhelmed by Sinner’s relentless play, stating, “He was on from the start… It felt like he was suffocating me with every shot.”
