Jett Lawrence and Haiden Deegan Conquers
Jett Lawrence and Haiden Deegan Dominate the Sand at Southwick National
Race Recap: Round 5 of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship and Round 22 of the SuperMotocross World Championship
The AMA Pro Motocross series returned to the iconic sandy terrain of The Wick 338 in Southwick for another thrilling weekend of action. As Round 5 unfolded, the spotlight was on whether Jett Lawrence could extend his unbeaten streak in the 450MX class and how the challenging sand conditions would impact the riders.
Key Questions Heading Into the Weekend
For the 450MX class:
– Could defending champion Jett Lawrence continue his dominance?
– Would Hunter Lawrence retain his points lead?
– Could Chase Sexton on the Red Bull KTM challenge the Lawrence brothers in the sand?
In the 250MX class, the focus shifted to:
– Could points leader Haiden Deegan master the sand and build on his success this season?
– Would Tom Vialle replicate his previous Southwick victory?
250MX: Deegan Shines in the Sand
The first 250 moto kicked off with Haiden Deegan, the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider and current points leader, seizing the holeshot. Close behind were Team Honda HRC’s Chance Hymas and Levi Kitchen from Monster Energy Pro Circuit, who battled for second.
As the race progressed, Tom Vialle from Red Bull KTM Factory Racing surged into contention, passing both Hymas and Kitchen to secure second place. He then set his sights on Deegan but was hindered by lapped riders as the race neared its end. Ultimately, Vialle settled for second, conserving energy for the next moto.
Deegan answered doubts about his ability to handle the sandy conditions, securing his first moto victory at Southwick and his sixth win of the season. The podium was rounded out by Vialle in second and Hymas in third, with Triumph Factory Racing’s Joey Savatgy maintaining a strong top-five presence.
What’s Next?
With Deegan proving his versatility and Lawrence’s dominance continuing to shape the narrative, the season promises more high-stakes battles. Southwick once again delivered a showcase of speed, strategy, and resilience, as riders pushed the limits in one of the sport’s most challenging terrains.
