Bronny James Goes Viral for Getting Ankles Broken in NBA Summer League Debut
Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James faced the Sacramento Kings in his first NBA Summer League game, marking the start of his professional career as the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. This matchup is part of the California Classic Summer League, which also features the Golden State Warriors.
Many NBA fans tuned in to see James’ debut, but it quickly featured a lowlight when Kings guard Adonis Arms broke his ankles on defense. Though James stayed on his feet, he stumbled noticeably. James has signed a four-year contract with the Lakers, placing him on their standard roster, though he is expected to spend some time in the G League. He is not anticipated to play significant minutes for the Lakers next season and may be a year or two away from consistently contributing at the NBA level.
Despite the discussions around James’ multi-year deal, it is similar to many contracts signed by late second-round picks. As he adjusts to the NBA, James will play extended Summer League minutes for the Lakers to help the team evaluate his current skill level. The Lakers will then decide on the best approach for James’ first NBA season, during which he will play alongside his father, LeBron James, who recently agreed to a new deal to stay in Los Angeles.
