Lewis Hamilton urged to ‘finish it off’ and then ‘Quit’ from F1
Lewis Hamilton Urged to ‘Win It and Quit’ as He Eyes F1 Glory with Ferrari
Lewis Hamilton has been advised to secure his long-sought eighth World Championship title and then step away from Formula 1. Dutch racing driver Tom Coronel believes Hamilton’s move to Ferrari is the perfect setup for him to achieve this historic milestone before retiring on a high.
Five years after claiming his seventh title, Hamilton shocked the F1 world by leaving Mercedes for Ferrari in a bid to cement his legacy as the sport’s most successful driver. His goal? A record-breaking eighth championship – a feat no driver has achieved.
A New Chapter in Ferrari Red
Hamilton, now in his first season with Ferrari, signed a multi-year deal that is reportedly for three years. Coronel suggests that Ferrari’s resurgence in form makes this the perfect opportunity for the 40-year-old Briton to achieve his dream.
“Ferrari should be his final destination,” Coronel told *Racingnews365*. “Win the title and then disappear. At the end of last season, Ferrari had the strongest car. If Hamilton wants that eighth championship, he has a better chance with Ferrari than Mercedes. Just start strong in 2025 and finish it off.”
Coronel envisions a Hollywood-style ending for Hamilton: a dramatic final race showdown between him and his long-time rival Max Verstappen. But unlike 2021, Coronel predicts Hamilton would triumph this time – and then call it quits.
“If I were directing this thriller,” Coronel said, “Hamilton would win the last race in Ferrari red, claim his eighth title, and then retire. That would be the perfect high note. He could then say, ‘I’ve done it all. I’ve driven for Ferrari and won. Now it’s time for a new chapter in life.’”
Hamilton’s Ferrari Dream
Hamilton’s move to Ferrari came as a surprise, especially after he signed a contract extension with Mercedes just months prior. However, Coronel believes the allure of Ferrari is irresistible for any driver.
“Ferrari is the ultimate dream for every racer,” Coronel explained. “Sure, Hamilton has been the face of Mercedes, but Ferrari is different. Formula 1 and Ferrari are intertwined. No other team carries the same emotion and history. Racing for Ferrari is something every driver wants to experience.”
Hamilton’s debut in Ferrari colors has already created a buzz. Fans and pundits alike are eager to see if the seven-time champion can adapt quickly and take on Verstappen, who has dominated the sport in recent years.
A Legacy in the Making
Coronel believes this season presents Hamilton’s best chance to rewrite history. Ferrari ended 2024 strong, winning five Grands Prix and finishing second in the Constructors’ Championship. If Hamilton can harness the team’s momentum, he could be well-positioned for success.
But Coronel has one final challenge for Hamilton: “If he wins the championship, he needs to have the courage to say, ‘This is it.’ Leave on top and let the world remember him as the driver who achieved everything – including making Ferrari champions again.”
For Hamilton, 2025 is not just another season; it’s the ultimate opportunity to cement his legacy as Formula 1’s greatest driver. Whether he retires afterward or not, one thing is certain: the world will be watching every lap.
