Lionel Messi’s “gift” has David Beckham scratching his head.
Even now, David Beckham finds it hard to believe Lionel Messi is a player for Inter Miami, and the Englishman may soon be facing more superstars.
Co-owner of the Major League Soccer prospects, Beckham, was able to entice Messi, 36, to Florida in July after he left Paris Saint-Germain. With 11 goals in his first 14 games for Miami, the Ballon d’Or winner made an instant impression on American football fans.
David Beckham has put together a formidable American team, which also includes legendary Barcelona players Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. Next year, the former captain of England hopes to invite more of Messi’s old teammates to Florida.
Ivan Rakitic’s Sevilla contract is set to expire in June, and it’s rumored that Miami wants to sign him. Beckham is also reportedly considering Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto for a move. Luis Suarez, a close buddy of Messi, is one player who appears set to sign with Miami.
Similar to how acquiring Messi was four months ago, signing Suarez would be a tremendous coup for Miami. “It’s still hard to believe that when someone turns around to me and says Inter Miami have Lionel Messi in their team, you know,” Beckham stated to AFP.
“Having the greatest player in the world on our team—someone like that—makes me a very proud owner. Leo’s arrival in America—not just in Miami—was always our gift to the country and the Major League Soccer (MLS).
“Because an individual such as that modifies the game. That kind of person, you know, motivates a new generation of soccer players. And for that reason, we desired to have Leo join the group. We want to win championships, of course.

Naturally, our goal is to dominate the league. However, we also purchased him in an effort to encourage the upcoming generation of American soccer players to pursue careers in the sport. Thus, bringing him along does that, and that’s crucial for us.”
By signing Suarez, Beckham hopes to offer Messi his own gift. The 36-year-old legend of Liverpool, who is out of contract in December, has scored 26 goals for Gremio this season. There are rumors circulating both ways that Suarez and Miami have reached an agreement.
Over the previous three days, Suarez has talked about Messi, but not about Miami. On Thursday night, in a World Cup qualifier, Messi’s Argentina and Suarez’s Uruguay will square off in Buenos Aires. According to Suarez, “Yes, we were talking to Leo,” as ESPN reported.
“I was happy, first because he often asked me about the national team, and now happy for the summons and to face each other again, it’s something very nice.”
