Liverpool examine a potential ideal substitute for Mohamed Salah
Liverpool is once again associated with a potential move for Kylian Mbappe before his Paris Saint-Germain contract expires next summer. The Reds have persistently been linked to the French star in recent times, even though they had tried to secure him when he left AS Monaco in 2017.
However, financial constraints, as outlined by Jurgen Klopp and Dr. Ian Graham, have made Mbappe’s acquisition financially unviable for Liverpool. Despite this, reports suggest the Reds are keeping an eye on Mbappe, yet it’s improbable they could afford such a deal given Mbappe’s significant earnings.
Even with their decreased wage bill, signing Mbappe would upset their current pay structure and remains a far-off possibility. The hypothetical scenario of securing Mbappe seems contingent on selling Mohamed Salah in a high-priced move to Saudi Arabia, although this too appears unrealistic. Not to mention, Liverpool’s substantial investment in an attacking revamp over the past two years, acquiring players like Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo, makes their forward line adequately covered.
While Mbappe may seem like a potential replacement for Salah due to his earnings, his preferred position and style of play differ from Salah’s role on the right. With Mbappe out of consideration, identifying a direct replacement for Salah at Liverpool remains challenging, and potential candidates like Bukayo Saka, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Leroy Sane, Raphinha, Ousmane Dembele, Jarrod Bowen, Takefusa Kubo, and Pedro Neto have either faded from discussions or don’t fit club policies. However, one player, Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, faces Liverpool and could fit the bill.
Mbeumo’s age, playing style, versatility, goal-scoring record,
He’s consistently performed against the giants of English football, registering 12 goal contributions against top clubs like Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Man City. Another impressive performance against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday could further enhance his growing reputation.
Although it’s a bit early to discuss potential replacements for Salah, given his contract until 2025, the player’s future moves to Saudi Arabia, preference to stay until the current deal ends, or even extend at Anfield, are still uncertain.
The club’s recruitment team will be exploring potential successors for the future. While Mbappe is an elite striker potentially available for a transfer, another French-born forward might be more intriguing for Liverpool.
