Major Update on Brandon Aiyuk’s Contract Negotiation Revealed by 49ers Insider
San Francisco 49ers Can’t Afford to Lose Brandon Aiyuk Amid Contract Dispute
The San Francisco 49ers face a crucial period as they gear up for a potential Super Bowl run, making it imperative to keep all key players on board. Although they seem poised to retain their core group, a significant issue remains unresolved, potentially needing attention before the season kicks off or even before training camp.
Brandon Aiyuk, a highly productive player, is integral to the 49ers’ offensive threat alongside Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey. However, Aiyuk’s absence from minicamp is a growing concern, stemming from an ongoing contract dispute and trade rumors. General manager John Lynch addressed the situation, emphasizing their efforts to negotiate with Aiyuk and confirming he won’t be traded.
“We’re actively chatting with Brandon, trying to figure something out. We have a good track record working with kids that we want to accomplish something with, and it takes two parts. So can we do it? We will see,” Lynch stated.
Despite ongoing discussions, the two sides remain far from an agreement. According to Mike Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, the 49ers recently made an offer to Aiyuk, but it fell short compared to the lucrative deal Minnesota Vikings’ star wide receiver Justin Jefferson received.
“I’m hearing their offer is in the $26-million range, which certainly is not Justin Jefferson money, nor should it be, but it’s closer to that DeVonta Smith, Amon-Ra St. Brown, that next tier down,” Silver reported.
Jefferson’s four-year, $140 million extension, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL at $35 million per season, has set a high benchmark for other wide receivers seeking new contracts. Aiyuk’s current offer is significantly lower, contributing to the ongoing impasse.
The 49ers must resolve this contract issue promptly to ensure Aiyuk’s presence and maintain their competitive edge in the NFC West and the broader conference.
