Man United listed 5 players for sale before match against Liverpool.
The build-up to Liverpool’s match against Manchester United this weekend has already begun.
Erik ten Hag’s side will face Bayern Munich in their final Champions League group match at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, with their chances of progressing to the knockout stage hanging by a thread.
United will then travel to Anfield on Sunday, looking to get back on track in the Premier League after being thrashed by Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Saturday. For the Cherries, Dominic Solanke, Philip Billing, and Marcos Senesi all scored.
On the eve of United’s game against Bayern, Scott McTominay has admitted that it was ‘toxic at times‘ under previous managers, but the players are ‘firmly behind’ Ten Hag.
“First and foremost, it is the players’ responsibility,” he stated. We’ve had many incredible players, and we’re now at the point where we have big personalities in the locker room.
“It is not just a case of like [with] some of the other managers where it has been a little bit toxic at times – the boys are firmly behind the manager.“We have an outstanding coaching staff. It’s as simple as that: we just want to do well for the football club.”
“We are inconsistent as a team, we have not been naive to that,” he said before adding, “we have not been naive to that.” We discussed it with the coaching staff.
“The schedule has been relentless, but that is not an excuse.” We must work together to find answers to these questions.
“Every team in the Premier League is extremely athletic, and every team in the Champions League can run; we need to match that and more when you play for this club.”
“The manager can’t do too much from the sidelines, it needs to come from the players.”
However, just before McTominay spoke, it was widely reported that United are open to offers for Casemiro, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, and Donny van de Beek in January, though Erik ten Hag will not consider any sale that would weaken his squad.
While it was also reported in the Mail that the opening page of incoming investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s book on the success of his petrochemicals firm INEOS was a “far cry from Bruno Fernandes clutching his untouched face in the Liverpool debacle recently,”
Although no specific game is mentioned, it is assumed that the game in question is when the Reds defeated United 7-0 at Anfield last season. Gary Neville chastised Fernandes for feigning injury in the face of challenges from Ibrahima Konate and Alisson Becker.
After a petulant 84th-minute booking for dissent during a dreadful 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth, the Portuguese international will be suspended for the Anfield visit. He received his fifth yellow card of the season, resulting in a one-match suspension.
Liverpool, on the other hand, enters the game at the top of the table after coming from behind to defeat Crystal Palace the previous week.
