Manchester United are interested in signing RB Leipzig striker Lois Openda in January.

According to reports, Manchester United is considering a January move for RB Leizpig forward Lois Openda.

After a disappointing start to the 2023-24 season, Erik ten Hag’s side is looking for attacking reinforcements during the winter transfer window.

The Red Devils suffered their fourth Premier League defeat at Old Trafford on Saturday, failing to score in a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth.

The Red Devils have sounded out a potential move for Belgian forward Openda in response to their struggles in front of goal.

Since joining Leipzig for £35 million from French club RC Lens last summer, the 23-year-old has scored 14 goals in 21 games.

Two of those goals came in Leipzig’s 3-2 Champions League group-stage loss to United’s rival Manchester City.

According to the report, a senior United scout informed manager ten Hag about Openda’s dazzling performance at the Etihad, and the club has made him a serious target.

However, league rivals Tottenham are said to be interested in the Belgian international, despite the ongoing struggles for Brazilian forward Richarlison.

United will be looking to bolster their front line after struggling in front of goal this season, as evidenced by their disappointing defeat to the Cherries.

According to Squawka, the defeat means that ten Hag’s side have now suffered more home defeats since Ferguson left the club than the legendary manager did in his 27-year tenure with the Red Devils.

Ferguson, who led Manchester United to 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League titles, only lost 34 games at home during his tenure as manager.

Meanwhile, United have suffered four home losses this season, falling to Brighton, Crystal Palace, Manchester City, and now Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth.

Interestingly, this was United’s heaviest defeat at home against a team that was in the bottom half of the table at the start of the weekend, with Bournemouth now rising to 13th in the table, level with Chelsea, Brentford, and Wolves on 19 points.
