Marc Marquez: “I don’t feel guilty, I did nothing!” about Pramac quitting Ducati
Marc Marquez has denied any responsibility for Pramac’s departure from Ducati.
Marquez’s selection by Ducati for their 2025 factory team caused significant upheaval in the sport. As a result, Jorge Martin signed with Aprilia and Enea Bastianini moved to Tech3 KTM. Additionally, Marco Bezzecchi also joined Aprilia.
Pramac, Ducati’s satellite team, decided to end their long-standing partnership with Ducati and will join Yamaha next season. Marquez told Autosport, “I don’t feel guilty about Pramac leaving Ducati, because I didn’t do anything.”
He acknowledged that he would have preferred Pramac to stay with Ducati, as it would mean more bikes on track and valuable information for the team. However, as a MotoGP fan, he believes it was a necessary step for one of the Ducati teams to join Yamaha, providing the championship with four Japanese bikes and reducing the number of Italian bikes.
Next season, Ducati will have their factory team along with Gresini and VR46, while Yamaha will increase their presence from two to four bikes.
Initially, Pramac seemed like a logical choice for Marquez in 2025 because they could provide him with a factory-spec bike. However, Marquez unexpectedly announced that Pramac was not an option, leading Ducati to abandon plans of placing Martin in their factory team and Marquez in Pramac.
Pramac’s boss, Paolo Campinoti, has criticized Ducati’s decision to sign Marquez, arguing it contradicts their philosophy of supporting young riders. Ducati defended their choice, citing the upcoming arrival of Moto2 talent Fermin Aldeguer as proof of their commitment to youth.
Marquez will join Ducati’s official team next year as the manufacturer faces a changing landscape with fewer bikes on the grid.
