‘My Liverpool team-mate was an idiot – Danny Murphy
Danny Murphy, a former Liverpool player, remembers how his wife’s outlandish antics made one of his former teammates unpopular.
This comes after Thiago Silva’s wife, Belle, of Chelsea, caused a stir by recommending that Blues coach Mauricio Pochettino be fired after the team lost 4-2 to Wolves, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Murphy believes that Mrs. Silva’s public talks won’t go over well in the Chelsea locker room during a conversation on talkSPORT. His explanation was as follows: “I find it bizarre that you would get yourself in that situation where a wife, partner or girlfriend, mother, brother or whoever, starts tweeting about your career and the politics of the club and who should do what.” He compared it to a similar situation at Liverpool.
“It’s beyond my comprehension because it wouldn’t happen on my watch and if it did, it would only happen once,” he said, seeming bewildered. “If Thiago Silva was 25 and planning a long career at Chelsea, it would be more relevant because what’s next?” he questioned, making a suggestion about Silva’s future at Chelsea. Next week, will she post a tweet criticising Ben Chilwell’s subpar defence?
He asked, speculating as to where the line should be drawn: “Where does it stop? Will she tweet about (Nicolas) Jackson’s header miss at the 2-1 score? What, wait?”
“I remember at Liverpool, we had a little party with all the new players in pre-season and we had some adult entertainment,” the former football player continued, telling a wild tale from his time at Liverpool. “One of the players’ wives decided to phone the manager and tell him how disgusted she was that he’d put her husband in the situation.”
He went on to say that this created some agitation inside the team. Murphy declared: “He wasn’t a popular boy and he was an idiot nonetheless. On a specific night out with friends, the wife of the aforementioned player made the decision to inform another Liverpool player—I’m talking about a Liverpool icon as well—that his off-field antics needed to be reined in since his defence had been terrible.”
This midfield wizard made 249 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 44 goals, providing 41 assists, and winning numerous trophies, such as the League Cup in 2003 and the treble in 2000–01.
