NBA Legend Julius Erving Backs Decision to Exclude Caitlin Clark from Olympics Roster

NBA Hall of Famer Julius Erving has also voiced his support for the decision. In an interview with Fox News Digital, Erving explained his stance, aligning with Taurasi’s perspective. “The debate over her not being on the Olympic team is ongoing, and I’ve taken a position on it,” Erving said, while also discussing his investment in the National Thoroughbred League, a pioneering horse racing league. “I think she’ll likely be part of the next three Olympic teams, and three would be sufficient because there are risks involved with this particular team.”

Erving emphasized the physicality of international play, stating, “The world plays a different game than the WNBA, much more physical and demanding. She’s been on a relentless run with her NCAA success and the ongoing WNBA season, which is far from over.”

Erving expressed concern for Clark’s well-being, saying he doesn’t want her to “hit a wall” due to the intense demands of competing at the Olympic level so soon after her rigorous collegiate and professional seasons. His comments suggest a protective stance, prioritizing Clark’s long-term career and health over immediate Olympic participation.
