Packers Matt LaFleur clarifies Jaire Alexander’s absence from the Giants game.
On Monday Night Football, the Green Bay Packers fell 24-22 to the New York Giants, a game that featured young gunslingers Jordan Love and Tommy DeVito in a close game that was lost at the end.
The Packers recently received an injury update on rookie receiver Jayden Reed. During the Giants’ loss, coach Matt LaFleur took issue with a coordinator’s calls.
LaFleur revealed on Wednesday that cornerback Jaire Alexander was held out of the game against DeVito and the Giants for one important reason.
LaFleur Speaks Out About the Alexander Situation
Jaire Alexander has 18 solo tackles and four passes defensed for the Packers this season.
The former Louisville Cardinal and 2018 first-round pick did not accompany the Pack to their game at MetLife Stadium on Monday night.
Alexander had previously accompanied the Packers on two previous road trips.
“Just felt like that was best for him in terms of trying to get his shoulder back, part of the recovery process,” he said.
The Packers’ pass defense is still strong.
The Packers are allowing only 200.2 yards per game through the air heading into Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Last week, in a 29-25 win over the Falcons, Bucs QB Baker Mayfield threw for 144 yards and two touchdowns, while Rachaad White ran for 102 yards on 25 carries.
Chase Edmonds rushed for 40 yards for the Bucs, who are now 6-7 on the season but tied for first place in the NFC South with the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons.
The Packers are currently seventh in the NFC playoff picture, giving them first dibs on a spot in the NFL’s second season.
